Note: This translation of Charles Maurras’ “All Soul’s Day” originally appeared in Taki’s Magazine. On All Soul’s Day, we honor the memory of the dead, especially those closest to us in our hearts and mind. Charles Maurras refers to this as “the universal cult of the dead, of all the … Continue reading

Galileo: Stop the Presses
Somewhere in Italy, in the 17th century. One beautiful morning, Giovanni is sitting out on his patio, sipping on some espresso and reading the newspaper. His wife comes out of the house and begins hanging up some clothes to dry. “Listen to this, Maria,” said Giovanni. “On the front page, … Continue reading
The Gornahoor Project
Based on some exchanges lately, we feel the need to make clear the purpose of the Gornahoor Project. There is one distinction, and one distinction only: that between Tradition and anti-Tradition. Elaborating that distinction in its past and current manifestations is a legitimate topic for discussion. However, proselytizing for one … Continue reading
Everything else is a Pastime
The next question is “who desires, initiates and brings about the change.” If the world is phenomenon, then the “who” must be outside phenomenon, that is, noumenal, not a “thing”. The “who” is the constant in every act of consciousness, which is in perpetual flux. As such, it is not part of the world, but rather the silent observer of all that is. This is unobservable to scientists, who must necessarily deal with phenomenon. For the philosopher, it can only be an issue for debate, ultimately unresolvable. But for the metaphysician — and this is what distinguishes him from the philosopher — it as a definite and knowable state. In Tradition, this state has been called, inter alia, the Unmoved Mover, the Observer, True Will, or Atman. Continue reading
Chastising the General
The General McChrystal affair has dominated the news media today. I have no intention of debating the merit or demerits of the war in Afghanistan, but rather about the coverage of the incident itself. A bevy of commentators and government officials are trotted out to deal with the following two … Continue reading
To Love the Truth
The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that … Continue reading
Death to the World
In Memoriam In the USA, today is Memorial Day, when the war dead are memorialized. By extension, it is also a time to remember the dead among our family and friends; it is the secular equivalent to All Soul’s Day for an irreligious nation. We can also use the occasion … Continue reading
The Flowering of European Civilisation
To the profound comprehension of this law of the intellectual generation of ideas, are due the marvels of Catholic civilisation. To that wonderful civilisation is due all that we admire and all that we see. Its theologians, even considered humanly, put to the blush modern and ancient philosophers; her doctors … Continue reading
The Prisoner: Free for All
When I first watched the television series, The Prisoner, I assumed it was a warning against the dehumanizing and massification methods of the Western liberal “democracies”. When I recently saw it again, it dawned on me that it is actually a blueprint for the world to come. Do you remember … Continue reading
Evola’s Advice to the Pope
On the occasion of the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the USA, it may be appropriate to quote Evola on the situation of the Church just after Vatican II and on its prospects to become an authentic force of Tradition. This is from the conclusion of the chapter “Esoteric … Continue reading
